Review of My Last Read — no spoilers, ever!

I think I've read this volume previously, or at least many of the stories as they seemed familiar. Regardless, it was a good eldritch read full of October tidings all under lain by Lovecraft's horror that goes beyond the fright of Halloween or Samhain. A good gathering of tales that begins appropriately with Lovecraft's "Hallowe'en in a Suburb", but ones that stood out to me were: "Inheritance" by Ann K. Schwader, "No Other God but Me" by Adrian Cole and :Summer's End" by Erica Ruppert. If you like a bit of lovecraftian mix to you spooky season do yourself a favor an add this boo to your creepy evening reading. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Review of My Last Listen

I picked the audiobook because I was intrigued by the title and the highly respected editor and was hooked by the introduction's premise of sword and sorcery. According to wikipedia, "Sword and sorcery (S&S) or heroic fantasy is a subgenre of fantasy characterized by sword-wielding heroes engaged in exciting and violent adventures. Elements of romance, magic, and the supernatural are also often present. ... Sword and sorcery tales eschew overarching themes of "good vs evil" in favor of situational conflicts that often pit morally gray characters against one another to enrich themselves, or to defy tyranny." While certainly many of the stories fit at least loosely in this definition, I have a different ideal of S&S which is grittier than many of these stories. That said, it was a fantastic anthology of well-written, engrossing fantasy tales with stellar narration. Highly enjoyable and highly recommended if you're looking for a good, diverting listen. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
